This month MyClips, the renewed online support module about “video to support your teaching” has been launched. The base of this redesigned module was a research and design project by Janneke Domen, the intern at AS Teacher Development in 2018. 

Research on the needs

Based on questionnaires form teachers in UTQ training, meetings with experts and experienced teachers, Janneke found that an astonishing 72% of teachers would like to use video in their education, but only 8% of TiU teachers do so at this moment. Teachers feel that they need more technical support and know-how to start using videos in their education. Besides that, the available time was a limiting factor in starting to use video and are not always sure where to find support.

Experts and teachers both stated that it was important to understand why to use video in education, What is in it for me as a teacher? And when is video an adequate tool?

Teachers prefer to learn in informal ways from other teachers about video. Alternatively, they like to learn from a training or online course, or read about the topic.

Design of the module

The goal of the module is to support teachers to actually use and produce videos to support their teaching. The module is online, as this motivates the teachers to learn in their own pace and own time. Besides that, it is modular, so that it can be used as a reference and well as a course.

The module is set up in the steps WHY, WHAT, HOW, WHAT IF and SUPPORT.

The module contains examples of other TiU teachers who use video to support their teaching. We started with an interview with Annet te Lindert, based on the storytelling principle.

Besides the module, a workshop on creating your own knowledge clips still is available for free at TT Acadamy.
